The story was written in a scornful and mocking look portrayed by the mood projected by the main character Bana in the story . Bana wrote his letter for her childhood girlfriend , Zole to express his feelings and inconvenience oneself towards the degrading dark continent of Africa due to the rampant and wet greed and corruption in the country . Since Bana is soon to be executed together with his friends and accomplices namely Sazan and Jimba , he expressed his inhibit feelings for Zole , whom Bana ever loved since they were innocent children just enjoying the God-given sweet pleasures brought sound by nature . Bana conveys his last remarks to unfold the existing scenario in Africa he compares that the bandits or thieves are no less than the government officials who steal money from people . Bana accent how he and his friends was so willing to die as bandits or else of living continuously in sin and cursed send off filled with futile stealth , selfishness , and lies .
